Our History

The Royal, Sovereign, Imperial Court of the Texas Riviera Empire, Inc. was founded in 1986 by a group of hardworking and hard playing individuals that wanted to combine the fun and laughter of a social group, with the serious task of raising much needed funds for the Corpus Christi and Coastal Bend Communities.

The Texas Riviera Empire is a proud member of the United Courts of Texas, which is comprised of the Courts of Austin, Corpus Christi, Dallas, Ft. Worth, Houston and Waco.

These Courts are all members of the International Imperial Court System that was founded by Empress I Jose Sarita, the Widow Norton. In addition to the Texas Courts, there are courts in most major cities in the United States, Canada, as well as Mexico.

Although we are affiliated with the International Organization, each Court is a self-governing organization in its own right. Each Court is required by Empress I, Jose The Widow Norton and the International Court Council to be a non-profit body governed by a Board of Directors that answers to the community that it serves.

From the beginning, we have elected an Emperor and Empress each year at a gala event know as Coronation. These Monarchs serve as co-chairs of the organization and are charged with the responsibility of raising money for charitable organizations and people in need in our community. The Monarchs must hold functions, membership meetings and fundraisers for the enjoyment of the community and through these efforts, provide assistance to those in need.

In addition, the Monarchs travel thousands of miles each year to attend other Court functions and to serve as goodwill ambassadors for the gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgendered community of Corpus Christi and the Coastal Bend.

The Court has an outstanding record of community service and financial contributions to the community. The Texas Riviera Empire has raised in excess of $100,000.00 since its beginnings for agencies such as the Coastal Bends AIDS Foundation, The Loving Spoonful, The Passage, Metropolitan Community Church, South Texas Inter-faith Council, CASA, The Corpus Christi Women’s Shelter, The Rainbow Room and Halo-Flight, just to name a few.

As you can see, we work hard but also have a lot of fun in what we do! Come join us in making this a better community to live in.
